Ohana Comic Con to Join Festival on Nov. 2

The Madera Pomegranate, Fruit, & Nut Festival welcomes Ohana Comic Con to this year’s festival so don’t put away your Halloween costumes just yet!

What is Comic Con?  It is a pop culture phenomenon that’s main focus has been on comic books and comic book culture but in recent years has grown to popular icons from television, movies, and gaming.  Fans gather to visit exhibitors, vendors and to meet creators, experts, and enthusiasts.

The Ohana Comic Con gathering will take place during the festival in Women’s World and there will be no admission fee.

Many who attend a comic con event will come dressed up like their favorite character so those costumes you bought for Halloween can also be used at this year’s festival!  Join us as your favorite character!  Attendees dressed in costume can participate in Ohana Comic Con’s costume contest at 2:30 p.m.  There will be a division for Adults and one for Children.  Contest will take place on the stage between Lumber Town and Women’s World.  Contestants must sign up with Ohana inside of Woman’s World prior to the contest.  Prizes will be given.  PLEASE NOTE:  Costume props resembling weapons are NOT allowed in the festival OR Comic Con.  Judging of contest will be done as a NO PROPS event. Any props resembling a weapon will be confiscated.

Featured guests of the Ohana Comic Con are:

C. Andrew Nelson – spent 12 years officially portraying the iconic Star Wars character of Darth Vader for film, television, games, commercials, print, and live appearances. He is also known for his VFX credits at ILM that include Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Galaxy Quest, Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Perfect Storm, Jurassic Park III, The Time Machine, and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Andrew worked nearly six years at LucasArts Entertainment Company where he helped create and design such popular games as Dark Forces, Rebel Assault II, Full Throttle, The Dig, Jedi Knight, Curse of Monkey Island, Masters of Teras Kasi, Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron, and Indiana Jones & the Infernal Machine.  Andrew has worked extensively with sister companies Lucasfilm Ltd., Lucas Learning, Lucas Licensing, and THX.

Robert Allen Mukes – After playing professional basketball for 30 years, Mukes trained for the WWF, then came acting. Standing at 6’10”, Mukes uniquely stands out. His light, charismatic presence lends to the humorous side of his characters, while the slight darkness that lingers in his physicality lends to the darker more serious side. Projects include HBO’s series Westworld; the movies Coffin 2, Valentine DayZ, and Bone Tomahawk; and Showtime’s award-winning series Weeds, in which he played the memorable Alaskan bounty hunter, Abumchuk. He is most known for his role as Rufus Jr in Rob Zombie’s 2003 House of 1000 Corpses.

Michael S. Rodriquez – born in Madera, raised in Kerman, Rodriquez pursued his dream in the film industry and became a producer and writer. He is a Director at Film Industry, Producer Director at Entertainment Industry and Owner at MSR Studios Inc. He is known for his films; Lamb Feed (2014), Night of the Sea Monkey: A Disturbing Tale (2013) and Last American Horror Show: Volume II.  Through these projects, he’s been able to work with scream queen goddesses Felissa Rose, Lynn Lowry, and small/big screen favorite, Robert Allen Mukes.
