The Madera Chamber of Commerce and Ministerial Association are pleased to announce that Dr. Joseph Jones, President of Fresno Pacific University, will be the keynote speaker for their 2019 Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.
Joseph Jones, Ph.D. arrived at Fresno Pacific from Forman Christian College (FCC), a chartered university in Lahore, Pakistan, where he was vice rector (provost) since 2015. In addition to being the chief academic officer, his responsibilities included academic administration, marketing communications and enrollment management. Forman offered programs from kindergarten to the Ph.D. Forman is the third-oldest university in the country’s history, with 6,347 students, 220 full-time faculty and over 21,700 registered alumni.
Prior to his position at Forman, Jones spent more than two decades at colleges and universities in the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, a group of faith-based Christ-centered educational institutions. An ordained, licensed minister, Jones graduated with a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice with cognates in planned change and administration from the University at Albany, part of the State University of New York system. He has a specialty in restorative justice. His M.S. in Psychology is from Oklahoma State University and his B.A. in Psychology is from Colby College. Jones and wife Yvette have two adult daughters.
Special guest, Mayor Andy Medellin, will once again be on this year’s program to deliver a message.
Mayor Andy Medellin was first appointed to serve on the Madera City Council on July 1, 2011, to fill a vacant seat on the City Council for a term through December 5, 2012. In 2012, Andy successfully ran for office in Council District 2 and was elected to serve a four-year term through he then was elected as Mayor for a four-year term through 2020. Andy previously served on the City of Madera Planning Commission from 1998 through 2004 and again from 2007 through 2011. He also served as the Commission’s Chairman for three terms.
The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held on May 2, 2019 from 6:50 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. at Hatfield Hall, Madera Fairgrounds. Sponsorships are available and tickets are $15 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance. This event is held annually on the National Day of Prayer.
Senior Celebration Luncheon – The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Committee will also host the Senior Celebration Luncheon on May 2 beginning at noon at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, located at 2026 North Granada Drive. This afternoon function is organized to pay tribute to our senior community and serve as a time for them to pray in unity for our nation.
Guest speaker for the event is Dr. Lataria Hall. Dr. Hall She currently serves Fresno City College as the Vice President of Student Services, supervising counseling, health & psychological services, counseling, veteran services, assessment, financial aid, Admissions & Records, and all specialized programs. She brings a wealth of higher education experience to her work, including policy development, strategic planning, threat assessment, program development and management, and curriculum development for specialized populations.
Dr. Hall is also an international public speaker traveling to other nations such as Africa addressing economic growth and social development issues as it relates to education and working in ministry with her husband.
Mayor Andy Medellin will speak at the afternoon event followed by Guest Speaker, Marg Medellin.
